Happy 5 year wedding anniversary to my hubby! I remember our wedding day so vividly, how happy my dad was, and how he was so proud that he had picked our beautiful venue of Oheka Castle.We're off to spend the weekend in NYC where it all began. I also got some great news at work this week that I can share in a few weeks when its all public info (and part of this involves new hours which include alternate Fridays off, all year long in addition to regular vacation. Yes, being a lawyer has never been better). Happy Friday!

Well Coated

Fall means outerwear! Starting with a thin, light layer and moving toward more nubby, substantial wools as the days grow shorter and the air becomes crisp. A coat is an accessory after all, a compliment to any outfit, like the perfect bag or shoe. These picks are among my favorite for the early to late fall transition that has begun to settle into the air like dew on morning grass.

September is still warm, but unofficially its fall. So what is a working girl to wear? pencil skirts are season-less, and keeping the colors light makes it feel more appropriate when the mercury is still in the 70's most days. And a blazer ties any look together.

In Review: Lips

I have an epic collection of lip products. When I find one I like, I buy it in many colors. The problem is I like many brands, so my makeup vanity becomes easily overrun with lip tubs and I need to periodically scale back in my lust for lipstick. Like many ladies, I like my lipstick to last all day. Though I love Bobbi Brown classic lipstick, it doesn't necessarily make it past my morning coffee. My blogger friend Vanessa at Living in Steil recommended the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick, and wow, it does it all. I love this product, but often had to layer gloss on top to keep it moist. Solution? Enter Stay All Day Lipstick's shiny cousin: Stay All Day Vinyl.

I love the colors, the pigment, and the longevity. Apply once in the morning, line lips afterwards, and then maybe one touch up in the afternoon. My favorite color is the nude, a pinky-beige that still manages to stand out. Weekend color choice would be Scarlet, but I'm not brave enough to wear this most nights against my pale skin. Vanessa likes Carina, a coral-red that looks stunning in her Instagram snaps.

Trying Times

Since having a bay in 2011, I'm a believer in the phrase 'no news is good news'. After going through more than 2 years of surgical procedures to try in vain to restore vision to my husband's left eye after a seemingly inexplicable giant retina tear in 2012, we find ourselves at the receiving end of the same devastating news. The last attempt to restore vision on September 5th failed, and in addition he is among the unlucky 1% that has had a re-detachment and needs yet another emergency surgery. On top of coming to terms with the fact he will never regain vision in this eye, he now has to face the possibility of losing his eye altogether over the next few years. Tom and I are both pretty upbeat people, and know that it could always be worse. In 2011, we spent a week in the pediatric ICU with our precious baby 4 weeks after he was born. I lost a parent. I had brush with cancer diagnosis at age 24. My friend Christine lost her grandmother this week. My friends Vanessa and Lisa faced thyroid cancer. Other people have faced worse.

So for now, there is coffee for the things I can change, and wine for those things I cannot. And there is a sunrise tomorrow morning, and a sale at Loft.
