Closet Staples

Closet Staples

I will not be buying 'holiday' pieces this year, but my calendar is still full of some fun events over the next few weeks. So I picked my favorite basics- a J.Crew cotton cashmere tunic (at least 3 years old) and a pair of J.Crew black Pixie pants (I'm not sure they still make this, but its likely some of you own it from several years ago, or some other version of a black legging style pant). Target has some great pairs too. Change the shoes, the necklace, the lip color, add a scarf, some earrings. You get the point. I've worn this look already one time to the baptism of my best friends baby last weekend (bow flats and plum lipstick) , and have it in the queue for next week's mom's dinner and a movie. Nothing says 'happy holidays' like not having to shop for a new outfit!

Fall Flats To Fall For

Fall Flats To Fall For

I love new shoes, but since I work from home about 70% of the time lately and am on the pesky budget I've been talking about, a new pair will have to be both practical and affordable. I ma fairly obsessed with mules I've been seeing everywhere, and have picked up the pair above from target while on a diaper and formula run (in both black and silver, still under $50!) Leopard is a neutral, and is the easiest way to dress up a pair of jeans period. And Tom's are a personal favorite- not the classic slides but their more fashion forward yet still eco-friendly styles.

Any new finds I've missed in footwear?

Spring Wish List

When you hit 30 and realize your 20-something closet doesn't quite hit the mark anymore, a re-haul is in necessary. Then, when you have your second baby, move to a new state, work primarily from home, and frequent the gym at midday, a complete wardrobe makeover is in order. A wardrobe shift of this magnitude is a process for me, not a single event. I still have client meetings, days in my NYC office, and event at my son's schools to attend. So its a tall, versatile order for my closet to fill. Here are some picks I am eyeing for the Spring season.

Haircut: The Pixie

You may remember when I cut my hair super short in 2013, after months of perusing images and finally got the courage after experiencing a huge loss, and realized life is too short not to do something new. I've grown it since then, getting frequent trims and maintaining some form of a long bob. As I near my delivery date, I know that the collection of pixie images on my phone will soon be shown to my hairdresser, as I declare Im ready to go there again.

I think Ill wait to lose the baby pounds (only 10 to date but destine to be nearly double by time baby arrives in January). But sooner or later I think it's time!

Spring in the Office

There's nothing better than reaching for a floral dress and a light blazer when the first warm days of early spring roll around. Whether I'm office bound or headed to a client meeting, this look never lets me down.

Baseball Chic: April in New York

Featured piece: this awesome MLB Yankees cap from Fanatics.com. Because once April hits in New York, there's nothing better than grabbing your casual chic jeans and sneakers, and heading to the field with some friends. Id wear this outfit on a weekend as well running errands and grabbing coffee with girlfriends. Its all about the color combo for me, and the classic New York essence of a Yankees cap. What does spring in New York mean to you?

Put a Blazer On It

Put a Blazer On It

I really cannot get enough of a good blazer. I've had a harder time picking work outfits this month, perhaps its unseasonable lingering chill here in NY, perhaps its being 32 and feeling in between life stages. But whatever the occasion, I throw on a blazer and instantly feel better and more pulled together. Its no secret that J.Crew is my go to for all wardrobe needs, and their collection of blazer is probably my favorite part. Though usually pricey, I can't get enough. The 'Regent' is the season's newest addition, with its own stand collar and lighter linen blend.Ill be scouring the sale section on my upcoming day off, hopefully my little guy who is off from school wont mind!
